INDELIBLE

Good day to you or would I rather say good evening, because here in my country we are already in the evening. Some weeks ago a particular topic was on the lips of everyone here in Nigeria. It sent cold chills down people’s spines and all daughters were highly protected by their loved ones.

So I and my friend decided to put our thoughts into writing. He wrote from the male perspective of what he thought rape victims normally go through and I wrote about what I thought too and then combined the two. This poem takes you through the likely experiences of rape victims who are in search of Justice.

I have been silent for too long,
I have been weeping for a while,
Thinking about the misdeeds,
My mind filled with lots of pain.

I will slash your throat
If you say a word.
If you keep your word, you will have the sweet,
Those were the words that left his mouth.

He touched my skin
And down below,
Inflicting on me the blow of pain,
I cried and screamed
But all were muffled.

You shattered my life
Without thinking of the outcome.
I have swallowed words and shadowed voices.
I was drugged and robbed of my dreams.

Those years have been spent in tears,
I have spent this year with scorn.
Do you know the pain I have gone through?
So much thoughts in my mind.

You can climb a mountain,
And even cross an ocean,
I will find you anyway.
Those were the words he said when I tried to flee.

I have gotten to a stage of insanity and shame,
Lots of time, I wished I could forget,
But the pain and stain has no cure.
I must clear my name and soil his own,
It’s now or never or justice would be delayed.

I hope you enjoyed the poem? Don’t forget to vote, tell me what you think by commenting and share to get people informed.
